Lydia Borgendale was born Lydia Friederika Brutlag near Fulda Minnesota on
August 25, 1916.
She was the eighth
of nine children and she grew up on several farms in western Minnesota.
After graduating from
Herman High School she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis
where she met and
married Malcolm Borgendale. She lived in south Minneapolis for the rest of her life.
Malcolm and Lydia lived together for 56 years and had 5 children -- Tedi, Denny, Mac, Marilyn, and Ken. Denny died shortly after birth. Lydia worked for many years at the Hennepin County Medical Center. She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for over 65 years and was active in the education. Each year she made Christmas decorations to give to the children of the congregation. After her children grew up, she was able to travel the world and has been to Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Hungary, Germany, Norway, and Denmark. When in her mid-seventies, she bought a computer so she could write the stories of her life. Lydia died on March 15, 2004 in Minneapolis. She was preceeded in death by her husband Malcolm, her infant son Dennis, and her daughter Tedi. She is survived by three children (Mac, Marilyn, Ken), five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Of her 8 siblings, only her brother Minehart is still living.
